At Chinchero not far from Cuzco, a Quechua girl stares at the
visitor with curiosity.
Chinchero
is better known as the "land of the rainbow", owing
to the frequent appearance of rainbows during the rainy season.
At the entrance of the village, religious ceremony is underway.
Since the Spanish conquer, locals have blended Catholicism into
their ceremonies. Here, they gather, serve wine homemade from
maize, pray and eventually carry the large Christian cross to
their ancestral burial ground, where they pray again for good
weather and harvest in the coming year.
