The snow-capped volcano El Misti (5,822m) adds a beautiful backdrop to the colonnade at the centre of Arequipa, the second largest city in Peru. UNESCO declares the city a World Heritage Site, citing "an example of ornamented architecture represents a masterpiece of the creative coalition of European and Native characteristics".

At window at the Monasterio de la Recoleta. The Monastery was founded by the Franciscans in 1648. It was later rebuilt and relocated following a major earthquake.
