La Paz (alt. 3,600m) is the capital of Bolivia, as well as the highest city in the world. It is situated in a canyon below a plateau (top picture), and has population about one million. The city was founded in 1548 at the site of the Native American settlement. Since then, tens of thousands of buildings have been built in the basin and the hillside.

The name La Paz was originated from Nuestra Senora de La Paz, meaning Our Lady of Peace. Even in the 21st century, the city remains to be very traditional and intimate. Still, like many other parts of the world, it is impossible to resist the infiltration of modern technologies. Eventually, internet (second picture) will slowly replace dehydrated animals and other exotic items sold int e witch market (third & last pictures).
