Angkor Wat (ca. 1113-1150 AD)

Angkor Wat was built during the reign of Suryavarman II, and dedicated to the Hindu God of Vishnu. Its construction is believed to have taken 30 years, and it exemplifies the pinnarcle of Khmer Temple Mount architecture.

Angkor Wat is measured 1.3x1.5 kilometers. Surrounded by a 190-meter wide moat, it is like an island accessible only by a causeway.

Angkor Wat was later converted into a Buddhist temple, where monks still live in some of the surrounding chambers today.

Ascending to Angkor Wat's uppermost terrace via an extremely steep staircase. Most visitors choose to ascend to the top through the other staircase assited with iron rails

Angkor Wat's cruciform galleries of Thousand Buddhas. The inner walls of the galleries are covered by bas-reliefs depicting historical and epical scenes.
